School Pets

Dogs in school encourage caring behaviour and I’ve seen children so proud at being given the responsibility of walking or feeding the school dog, as well as being thrilled to be the one who is allowed to read to the dog in the library.

Most children love animals and not all have access to any so if they get to look after the chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, cats and dogs whist they are at school they are richer for it.

In London there are several city farms which usually foster relationships with the surrounding schools so it’s not unusual for children to have met and petted far more exotic animals. Llama, anyone?!
